Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Cellular Therapies Laboratory

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Cellular Therapies Division of Hoxworth Blood Center is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor cell collections for bone marrow transplant patients. Perform innovative cell selection techniques and develop new procedures for the production of novel cellular therapy products for clinical trial use. Participate in all aspects of laboratory operations, including clinical cell processing, maintaining supply inventories, performing quality control test procedures, facility and equipment maintenance, and communicating with physicians.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in biological science (or related field) and two (2) years related laboratory experience required. Dedication to quality patient service is a must. ASCP Certification, prior pharmaceutical production experience, or hematology research experience preferred.

 

Operations Manager - Cellular Therapies Laboratory

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Cellular Therapies Division of Hoxworth Blood Center is seeking an Operations Manager to assist with the management of a thriving clinical cell processing laboratory. Program growth has generated the need for an experienced laboratory professional to assist the Division Director with lab management responsibilities. This person would be responsible for overseeing the manufacture of a variety of cellular therapy products for clinical trial use, primarily consisting of bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell products for transplant patients being treated at the adult and pediatric transplant programs in Cincinnati. Perform innovative cell selection techniques and develop new procedures for the production of novel cellular therapy products for clinical trial use, including pancreatic islet cell products. Supervise technologists working in all aspects of laboratory operations, including clinical cell processing, maintaining supply inventories, performing quality control test procedures, facility and equipment maintenance, and communicating with physicians. Resolve complex laboratory procedural problems requiring advanced knowledge, skill and interpretive judgment. Assign work; ensure proper workflow; act as team leader / lead technologist.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in biological science (or related field) and three (3) years related laboratory experience required. Dedication to quality patient service is a must. Prior supervisory experience, ASCP Certification, prior pharmaceutical production experience, or hematology research experience preferred. Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Transplantation Immunology laboratory at Hoxworth Blood Center provides histocompatibility testing for Greater Cincinnati’s growing transplant programs, including kidney, heart, liver, pancreas, and stem cells. The ideal candidate for the Clinical Laboratory Specialist will have experience in: serology, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, data entry, good communication skills, and ability to work independently. On-call rotation is required. On-call pay for carrying the pager and cases worked in call-back situations are paid in addition to regular salary.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and MT (ASCP), BB (ASCP) or CHT (ABHI); or Bachelor’s degree and registry eligible; or Bachelor’s degree and HEW certified medical technologist with two (2) years related experience; or MLT with three (3) years related experience. Transplantation Immunology/HLA Laboratory
Division Director and Assistant/Associate Professor

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
A highly-qualified individual is sought to direct a University based, ASHI-accredited histocompatibility laboratory that supports the comprehensive solid organ and hematopoietic progenitor cell transplant programs at The University Hospital, The Christ Hospital, the Jewish Hospital and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Solid organ programs include adult kidney, pancreas, liver, small bowel and heart and pediatric kidney and liver. Adult and pediatric hematopoietic progenitor cell programs are also supported.


Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate should possess MD and/or PhD degrees, be qualified to serve as the Director, Technical Supervisor and Clinical Consultant in each area for which the laboratory is ASHI-accredited and meet requirement for Assistant/Associate Professor. Division director will be responsible for overseeing all HLA laboratory procedures including DNA typings, engraftment monitoring, crossmatching and antibody screening, develop active clinical and basic research collaborations within the University and teach. This is a non-tenure track position.

The Donor Testing Laboratory at Hoxworth Blood Center seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to perform routine and complex quality control testing of donor blood and components with minimal supervision, evaluate and interpret results, computerized data entry and retrieval functions, communicate effectively with individuals within and outside the department. On-call rotation for weekends and holidays required.


Minimum Qualifications:
The job requires a Bachelor’s degree, MT (ASCP), or Bachelor’s degree and registry eligible; or Bachelor’s degree and HEW certified medical technologist with two (2) years related experience; or MLT with three (3) years related experience. Degree must be in biological science or related field.

 

Research Fellows
Position Number: #28UC1264 - Full-time position
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research Division of Hoxworth Blood Center is looking to fill out two research fellow positions at Dr. Jose Cancelas' laboratory.

Design and implementation of studies in the area of stem cell and/or cancer stem cell research, including, but not limited to, lenti/retroviral trasnduction, bone marrow transplantation, rodent handling, ex vivo tissue culture, cell culture and molecular / biochemical analysis. The fellow will also be responsible for preparation of publications and funding applications based on his/ her work.



Minimum Qualifications:
Recent Ph.D. or equivalent with one or two years of postdoctoral experience in the biomedical and analytical aspects of immunology, hematology or oncology and animal experimentation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a certified Medical Assistant (MA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, valid driver's license and have a safe driving record. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and be able to demonstrate a full range of motion for bending, stooping and lifting.
