The blood drive will be held at the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All donors will be eligible to win prizes from various downtown merchants. Walk in’s are welcome, but space will be limited. Donors are encouraged to call (513) 451-0910 email Hoxworth at shannon.warmoth@uc.edu to make an appointment. Please include your name, address, and approximate time you would like to donate. In the summertime, the Cincinnati community can experience severe blood shortages. Unfortunately, summer donors often are in short supply because they’re on vacation or involved in all the fun summer activities everyone enjoys. The demand for blood is constant, even in the summer months. Hoxworth is encouraging people to remember to take some time out of their busy schedules to donate during June, July or August to help maintain a safe and plentiful supply of blood for our community. The demand for blood is growing as medical care becomes more complex and as baby boomers age. To make sure patients have blood when they need it, Hoxworth invites all current donors to give at least three times a year, and invites anyone who hasn’t given in a while—as well as brand new donors—to join them. That participation will be especially important this summer. This community blood drive is proud to be part of Hyatt Hotel's Corporation fifth annual national blood drive, Hyatt's Drive For Life. This drive is designed to increase blood donations and to bring attention to the rising need for blood during the summer. Other Hyatt hotels around the nation will be hosting blood drives during the week of Monday, June 23 through Friday, June 27, 2003. Donating blood is safe and easy. You must be at least 17 years old and in good health. You must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate. It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating. Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, is the only community blood center for the Greater Cincinnati area. Serving a 14-county area in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Hoxworth collects, tests, processes and distributes blood and blood components to 24 hospitals. Hoxworth needs to collect blood from 350 volunteer donors and 30 volunteer platelet donors each day to meet the demand of area hospitals. #### comments@hoxworth.org
